Meribel remains one of the most popular resorts on the planet with winter sports enthusiasts for many reasons, but its excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities are arguably top of the list, one expert has noted.

The advice site White Lines noted that Meribel has a huge freeride area to explore, which is ideal for people who like to put their skills to the test during their ski weekends.

Beginners should try the sides of the pistes next to the Tougnette and Salure down to Mottaret, as there are some well-spaced trees with an easy pitch under the Plan d'Homme chair.

"Intermediates and advanced riders can try lines off the Olympic express heading down to Le Raffort. This is a wide-open north-facing bowl with some couloir lines that provide an 845m descent towards St Martin de Belleville," it noted.

Meanwhile, a short walk between two peaks off the Mount Vallon bubble will lead people to an area known as 'Marioland' to regular travellers, which has a "ridiculous number of features to drop off" - ensuring even the most experienced skiers and snowboarders will be challenged during their ski weekends.
