Tasch bei Zermatt
Ski area
Skiing in Zermatt is on a vast scale, surrounded as it is by 29 peaks all over 4000m including the ever present Matterhorn. Aerial tramways and huge 125-person cable cars soaring up cliff faces are common, as well as necessary to access such an imposing mountain environment. The skiing divides into three areas that are now linked on the mountain, Sunnegga, Rothorn, Gornergrat. They offer everything from Switzerland's longest ski run (22 km) to wide carving runs and mogul fields. On sunny days, Zermatt-based skiers can head over the top for the long intermediate run to Cervinia and an Italian lunch.
