Although it may be more closely associated with summer holidays, people on ski weekends should ensure that sunscreen is something that they pack in their luggage, one expert has advised.

Bevis Man, communications manager at the British Skin Foundation, explained that people on skiing holidays actually have greater exposure to UV light than those in some summer resorts.

"The amount of UV rays that reach the Earth's surface increases by up to five per cent for every 1,000 feet above sea level you are, so areas that are typically exposed to the elements are the key areas to apply sunscreen to," he advised.

Mr Man recommended that those on ski weekends bring a sunscreen of SPF30 or higher, with a high level of UVA protection.

Recently, Dharmesh Patel, chairman of the Eyecare Trust, said that it is vital that people heading on ski weekends in the near future ensure they have all the necessary equipment before their holiday commences, including skiing goggles.
