An increasing number of Brits are choosing to take their short ski holidays by coach in a bid to save money, it has been found.

Figures from the Coach Tourism Council (CTC) show that bookings for the first period of 2009 are up 20 per cent on the same period last year.

CTC chairman Sean Taggart said that people are not letting the economic downturn stand in the way of their holidays.

"Despite thousands being hit hard by the credit crunch, high unemployment and awful returns on savings, it's easy to forget that there are still millions of people who intend to take a holiday this year," he added.

The results suggest that Brits may be compensating for the strength of the euro by taking cheap ski holidays by coach.

In other news, easyJet reported earlier this week that it has seen a surge in the number of people taking short ski holidays this year.
