People heading on skiing holidays in La Plagne in the coming weeks are likely to be impressed by the eco-friendly ethos of the resort, as steps have been taken to ensure that the area is as green as possible.

The local authority has installed a biomass heater which has replaced the petrol heating system which was formerly in place, at a cost of €4 million.

Now the heater will supply 90 per cent of the resort's heat and generate far less emissions than before.

"The biomass system burns mainly wood collected from freight palettes or debris from local saw mills. Two petrol heaters act as supplementary sources for end of the day heating or for extremely cold days," OntheSnow.com explained.

Meanwhile, IfYouSki.com recently said that La Plagne is one of the most popular resorts in the whole of Europe for good reason, as the beauty of the scenery and the excellent ski runs there ensure that people return for skiing holidays every year.
