An increasing number of people heading on short ski holidays are using safety equipment in order to ensure their trip goes without a hitch, it has been claimed.

A survey carried out by the National Ski Areas Association revealed that helmet usage among winter sports enthusiasts increased by 12 per cent last season as people sought the thrills of a trip to the mountains while ensuring they were safe on the slopes, the Mountain Times reported.

Kim Jochl, an expert in the field, said that traditionally it was younger skiers who wore helmets and safety gear but now older winter sports fans are seeing the benefits of being safe on skiing holidays.

"I believe we see more helmet use, particularly among the young, but all across the board. It's a combination of factors, an evolution in consciousness of skier safety," she told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Ski Club of Great Britain recently advised those heading on ski holidays in Brides Les Bains to ensure they take out travel insurance beforehand to provide peace of mind.
