People do not have to break the bank when on ski weekends in Meribel, according to one source which has issued some tips on how to stay there on a budget.

The Holiday Valley Ski Resort blog noted that ski weekends in Meribel are unrivalled when it comes to the range of activities people can take part in, but what many do not realise is that some of these are free.

"In winter, take the circular walk that enters the Tueda Nature Reserve or climb to la Traie mountain refuge. The trails are all groomed after every snowfall, so you do not need snowshoes or special equipment to use them," the source explained.

When it comes to lift passes there are also reductions and deals available, the source noted, as people aged over 75 can ski for free, while young skiers aged between five and 12 receive a 25 per cent discount.

Other free activities include regular barbecues, shiatsu lessons, walking tours and lumberjack contests, as well as music performances in the village every Friday night, the source recommended.

Winter sports enthusiast Shaun Parker, writing for recently, said that Meribel is a "tastefully-designed" resort which looks its absolute best during the festive period.
