People heading on skiing holidays in the near future have been advised to ensure they have travel insurance to cover the cost of any eventuality.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has warned that, although ski holidays can be great fun, it is important for people to have adequate cover in place in case the worst happens.

Nick Kirwan, the ABI's assistant director of health and protection, pointed to a recent government survey which found that a third of British skiers have been on holidays without travel insurance at some point and labelled the data "concerning".

"Skiing is exhilarating but can also be dangerous, so it is alarming that nearly a third of people planning winter sports holidays do not intend to take out travel insurance," he explained.

It comes after Steve Halsall, celebrity fitness trainer and fitness entrepreneur, said that people need to ensure they are prepared for their sports holiday trip by taking out insurance and being in the right frame of mind.
