Those looking for peace of mind on their skiing holiday will find that wearing helmets gives them some extra protection, new research has proven.

A study carried out at the University of Calgary and published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal showed that those on skiing holidays who wear helmets when schussing and slaloming down the slopes are 35 per cent safer than winter sports fans who do not.

Study author Brent Hagel, from the Alberta Children's Hospital, said the use of helmets "significantly" protects skiers and snowboarders when they head away to popular resorts, such as Brides Les Bains.

"Risks of head injury can be reduced by 35 per cent. Based on this evidence, we encourage helmet use," he said.

Recently, John Fitzsimons, writing for, said that another way that those heading on skiing holidays in Brides Les Bains can protect themselves is by taking out tailored travel insurance beforehand.
