The very best slopes in Meribel are those located above an altitude of 2,000 m, according to one source.

Stephen Lee, writing for the Guardian, said that there has been slightly less snow than usual in the past few weeks but this has not affected the higher slopes, where people can find thrilling winter sports opportunities.

"Existing snow has held well in the relatively cold conditions. Last night 5 cm of new snow was fairly widespread, however, up to 45 cm of new snow is expected by the end of the week (January 16th)," he added.

The source added that, despite a lack of new snow in Verbier, the skiing opportunities there are still very good on the upper pistes, while the resort of Saas Fee will see an extra 70 cm of snow in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Meribel has added a new attraction in the form of a comfort zone which offers those on ski weekends the chance to take a break from winter sports for a while and grab something to eat or drink.
