Wintersports fans heading to Europe this year can still get cheap ski breaks in Italy and France, new research finds.

The Post Office reviewed many ski destinations, saying that Italy came out the cheapest of all the mainstream European destinations.

It looked at a number of factors, including ski hire and equipment, the cost of living and current exchange rates, finding that the average cost of cheap ski breaks in Italy is £290.13, without accommodation.

France also came in as a good option for cheap ski breaks, with Courchevel seeing a cut in prices since last year, coming in at £298.97.

The Post Office said that, even with the less favourable exchange rate, when compared to last year the resort is 11 per cent cheaper than 12 months ago.

Sarah Munro, head of travel services for the organisation, said: "It is worth comparing the prices of ski equipment hire and lift passes in different resorts as these can make a
big difference to the overall cost of a ski holiday."
This week, Peter Hardy, writing for the Daily Telegraph, said that researching a break and buying items like ski hire and lessons before leaving can contribute to cheap ski breaks.
