Insurance 'a wise idea' on ski weekends

People heading on ski weekends in the coming weeks have been advised to make sure they have insurance in place to cover any eventuality.

That is the recommendation being issued by Axa, which has compiled a study showing that 17 per cent of the UK adult population have enjoyed a snowboarding or ski holiday at some point, yet ten per cent of these vacationers have not taken out travel insurance when doing so.

In addition, 25 per cent of those heading on ski weekends have relied on their annual travel policy to cover them, without first checking if winter sports activities are included.

Amanda Edwards, a spokeswoman for AXA Travel Insurance, commented: "To cut insurance out is a false economy. Around £50 to cover a family of four for a week's skiing in France is not much more than the price of lunch on the slopes."

Earlier this year, Caroline Stuart-Taylor, chief executive of the Ski Club of Great Britain, said that travel insurance is one essential which many winter sports enthusiasts often forget to take care of before they depart.
