British winter sports enthusiasts are increasingly looking to buy year-round homes in the prestigious ski resort of Chamonix, it has been revealed.

Many investors are fulfilling life-long dreams by buying high-end homes in the country, where they can stay after their short ski breaks are over, the Daily Telegraph reported.

David Giraud, president of MGM, one of the major property developers in the region, told reporters that the town's attraction is about more than simply ski holidays in France.

"Chamonix is unique as a resort in that it's a wonderful place to be all year round," he said.

"Of course, you have excellent skiing here, but with the personality and history of the area, the appeal goes far, far beyond that."

Mike Rollanson, who owns a British-based Nordic walking company, told the newspaper that Chamonix is a busy, traditional French town all-year round.

Last week, the Daily Telegraph reported that Chamonix is a particularly good destination for skiers looking for short winter breaks.
