The fresh snow seen in Saas Fee and other major European resorts recently bodes well for the coming weeks, when the continent's winter sports havens come alive, a new report suggests.

According to the Ski Club of Great Britain, the glaciers in Saas Fee and Zermatt received a "dusting" of snow earlier this week, which is likely to increase in volume over the weekend and buoy the hopes of those heading on ski holidays in the near future.

"As the available terrain expands in Austria, there has also been good news for Switzerland this week with 5cm of fresh snow received at both Saas Fee and Zermatt on Tuesday October 5th," the source noted.

Those who do visit Zermatt in the coming weeks may wish to visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, a new solar restaurant which stands at an altitude of 2,883 metres and has been awarded the 2010 Solar Prize for new buildings in Zurich after fulfilling the requirements of the Minergie-P standard.
