People heading on bargain ski holidays to La Plagne this winter can experience a unique new attraction giving them a taste of the Winter Olympics.

The area's bobsleigh has been opened to the public, enabling them to hurtle down to the bottom and see what it is like to take part in a competition.

Originally built for the 1992 Games, the course is regarded as one of the most challenging in the world and for €38 (£34) a group of four people can travel down the run on a 'bob-raft', which does not require steering.

Alternatively, those on cheap ski breaks looking for a more intense experience can pay €103 to travel down on their own at speeds of up to 50mph or shell out €108 to be accompanied by a professional and reach speeds of over 75mph.

La Plagne was also recently recommended for bargain ski holidays by Best Place to Visit, which said that it is one of the world's biggest resorts and therefore has a large number of activities to take part in.
