Officials in the Paradiski ski area expecting the Vanoise Express to be given the go-ahead to open later this month.

The double-decker cable car has passed a series of test runs and engineers are now waiting for government officials to give the green light.

The lift, which is capable of transporting 2,000 people per hour in each direction, has been closed since 2007 and is expected to reopen on December 20th, lesarcsnet.com reports.

Prior to 2007 the lift had been running for four years and engineers have reportedly been working all summer to replace individual cables, each of which weigh over 55 tonnes.

The Vanoise Express connects Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne, which form the enormous Parasiski area.

Once of the world's largest linked ski areas, Parasiski features 425 kilometres of runs, two fully equipped glaciers and five snowparks.
