Eat posh on the piste

Ski News brought to you by SkiWeekends.com, specialists in Ski Holiday Deals and Cheap Ski Breaks.

Just because you are expending huge amounts of energy bombing down the slopes on your winter sports break doesn't mean you have to turn to stodgy foods in the evening to build your strength back up. Instead, seek out some exquisite eateries to sample delicious Alpine dishes.

L'Atelier d'Edmond in Val d'Isere has just received its first Michelin star, and for good reason - the restaurant serves up a range of mouth-watering local concoctions flavoured with Mediterranean, citrus and herb notes. A typical meal includes marbled duck foie gras, brill cooked on the bone, crispy chocolate with mushrooms and sweet petits four with coffee.

The Oyster tartar served with smoked herring eggs and crayfish and fondante potatoes will also go down a treat with skiers, along with the roasted deer with sweet vanilla juice. Wash it down with a glass of proper Champagne.

Over in the French resort of Megève, chef Emmanuel Renault has scored a third Michelin star for his work at the Flocons de Sel. As well as dining on his imaginative dishes, you can even join his team in the hotel's kitchen to learn about their trade. Cookery classes last around two hours and participants will learn two to three dishes in one session, paying €60 (£51) for the honour of picking up skills from the greats.

You can also see what it is like behind the scenes of a gastronomique restaurant by arriving in the Flocons de Sel kitchen at 9am and help the chefs prepare for lunch. Tickets cost €200 and you can eat whatever you prepare.

If you find yourself booking a cheap ski trip in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, save up your pennies for a slap-up meal at Auberge du Bois Prin, which has also just been awarded its first Michelin star. Chef Denis Carrier prepares his dishes sourced from his own organic vegetable garden, and there is a strong emphasis on using only the finest local ingredients that are in season.
