With slopes across Europe currently witnessing some of the finest snow conditions on the planet, many people have booked ski holidays for the coming weeks to take advantage of the crisp runs and fantastic atmosphere.

However, people who are heading away to the slopes also need to ensure they are prepared for the holiday, particularly if they are going skiing for the first time.

Ski Republic recently noted that one million Brits take a ski holiday each year, and therefore published a list of essential things to remember for first-time skiers, and even experienced ones.

A good idea is to book ski equipment in advance so it will be ready and waiting for people on arrival, thus avoiding all the hassle of having to get items in the resort.

Secondly, people need to prepare physically for the holiday, the source noted, as fitting in some exercise before they fly will reduce the chances of strains and fatigue.

In addition, once on the piste, skiers should do stretches and a few arm and ankle rotations and remember to stretch out afterwards too.

As far as packing is concerned, this is one of the most important parts of preparation, and Ski Republic advised people to think methodically.

"Fill your case with warm layers, hats, watertight shoes and boots, (heels are not cool) and aspirin for the apres ski shots. Ski boots are the most important part of your ski equipment, they transfer your movements to your skis and must be snug (not cramped), warm and dry," it recommended.

People on ski weekends should always look after the extremities, and so a good pair of ski socks is essential, as they have padding in all the right places, while the same principle applies for ski gloves, the source explained.

By taking these factors into account, people will ensure their 2012 ski holiday starts in the best possible way and will go without a hitch.
