A new museum has opened in Chamonix to provide those on ski holidays in the resort with even more opportunities to explore the area and find out about its history and heritage.

Situated on the Rue des Moulins, the former Maison de la Memoire et du Patrimoine is one of the oldest buildings in the city, having been originally erected in 1828.

After the building was partially destroyed in a fire in 2006, it has been expertly rebuilt, but this time as a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the era.

"The space is dedicated to the history of Chamonix and houses a collection of sound archives, photographs and memoirs that have been collected over the years," explains.

Artefacts on show and the various displays in the resort gives people a chance to learn how Chamonix progressed from being a quaint village to a bustling centre and eventually one of the most famous ski holiday destinations in the world, and currently the third most visited natural site in the world.
