The end of an epic season

Even though many of the fantastic end-of-season festivities had already finished, more than a thousand people enjoyed a final short ski holiday in Chamonix. They braved the poor visibility conditions to take advantage of the fact that the main lifts were still running and that there was still plenty of snow.

However whilst one or two resorts have extended their season, that's pretty much it for the 2008/09 ski season. But don't despair - all is not lost for those not relishing the prospect of months without skis or snowboards, because Europe boasts numerous glaciers.

Glacier skiing in the summer offers a fantastic combination of snow and sunshine. The Matterhorn Glacier paradise in Zermatt isn't steep but offers fantastic snow and is Europe's largest summer snow sports area. There are other fantastic summer skiing options across the rest of Europe, so get your skis on!
