The Winter Olympics Evaluation Committee has visited Chamonix to evaluate its suitability to host a number of events at the 2018 Games.

Chamonix is hoping to stage the ice hockey and downhill skiing events at the 2018 Winter Olympics and last week a team of 12 visited the potential venues in the commune, which are currently being used by people on ski holidays, reported.

It explained: "From the cable car of the Aiguille du Midi the visitors were able to enjoy views of Chamonix; they certainly had nice weather for it. They were also able to get a good birds-eye look at the proposed site of the Olympic Village at Grepon-Jean Franco."

The party also spent some time on the terrace of the restaurant at Les Planards, where they were informed of how the site would be transformed into a slalom stadium with an ice rink and media centre for the 2018 Games.

According to the Lodge Atotter Creek blog, Chamonix enjoys reliable snowfall over the winter and so holidaymakers can travel to the resort almost any time between late November and late April and take advantage of the great conditions.
