When it comes to challenging slopes that can put even the most experienced skier to the test but also cater for novices, Courmayeur truly has the X-factor, one expert has claimed.

Rob Freeman, the Daily Mail's travel correspondent, explained that Courmayeur can be classed an intermediate's paradise, as it bridges the gap perfectly between nursery and beginner slopes and challenging red and black runs.

"This really is skiing that's perfect for intermediates, with few daunting surprises, on piste at least.
And the slopes of Courmayeur have an X-factor that really separates them from other ski areas," he added.

Mr Freeman added that they are arguably worth visiting simply to enjoy some of the best mountain restaurants on the planet, with Courmayeur "punching well above its weight" in the culinary stakes.

However, it is all about the skiing in Courmayeur if people are serious about hitting the slopes on their ski weekends, and in this department the resort ticks all the boxes, he added.

The virtues of Courmayeur were recently extolled by the winter sports advice site Info Barrel, which explained that Courmayeur is both sunny and cheerful and is a recommended destination for urban escapists or anyone who enjoys exciting ski holidays.
