Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal spent the festive period in Courmayeur on his annual ski holiday and at one point tucked into some of his own food.

Momentum Ski reports that the chef was in the resort with his family over the festive period and was treated to one of his own Heston Blumenthal Christmas Puddings with orange at one restaurant.

The dish was served with chocolate sauce, which the chef first described as "sacrilege" but later admitted that he loved.

"I was just right for the Italian palate. Whilst chocolate sauce is very unconventional, if you think about it, it actually works really well with all the Christmas pudding ingredients - orange, dried fruits and spices," the source reports him as saying.

After lunch, the chef burned off the calories by taking to the slopes and enjoying some schussing and slaloming.

Adrian Bridge, writing in the Daily Telegraph's travel section, said that he took a recent trip to Courmayeur and found that the holiday was one exhilarating moment after another, with thrilling runs and stunning views complemented by some excellent apres ski entertainment.
