How to find cheap ski deals in Switzerland

Latest News & Cheap Ski Holiday Deals brought to you by SkiWeekends.com

Ski holidays in Switzerland still have a reputation for being costly, but that needn't be the case. There are loads of ways to keep prices down and plenty of offers if you know where to look.

By following a few simple tips, it's possible to find cheap ski breaks to Switzerland this winter.

Franc-ly, it's not that expensive

First of all, just take a look at the exchange rate. While prices are down seven per cent in Austria and France, in Switzerland skiers will find they get 15 per cent more for their money this winter as the Swiss franc has taken a bit of tumble recently. When you add up a few lunches on the slopes and the odd apres drink, this works out at quite a saving.

Tracey Tivnan, head of marketing for Travel Money at Moneycorp, says: "Britons heading off to the European slopes this winter will see their money stretch further."

Save on lift passes in Switzerland

By choosing the right resort, you can save big on your lift passes. For example, Zermatt has a great offer for families, with children up to the age of nine skiing for free, with reduced-price deals for teenagers. There is also a special lift pass price for beginners.

Keep it short

During some of the lower demand periods – say mid-week in January – it's possible to find cheap ski deals in Switzerland, staying for two or three nights. For example, Saas Fee, one of the country's top ski resorts, is offering a special lift pass deal from January 5th to the 26th for anyone staying three or six days.

What price charm?

When it comes down to it, Switzerland has the kind of Alpine charm that is simply not possible in the likes of cheaper destinations like Andorra or Bulgaria.

As Heidi Reisz from the Swiss National Tourist Office pointed out to On The Snow, it's hard to judge skiing in Switzerland against anywhere else. "Can you compare unique old world Swiss charm with a stack of rabbit hutches in a modern French ski resort?" she asked.
