19 July 2010
Ski news brought to you by skiweekends.com, specialists in bargain ski holidays and ski holidays in France.

The Annecy 2018 Olympic committee have confirmed that the areas that will be put forward in the bid for the 2018 winter olympics will be the popular ski holiday area, Chamonix Valley, along with Annecy and La Plagne.  Annecy will host the skating, curling, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined.  Chamonix will host the all the alpine skiing events, as well as the ice hockey.  La Plagne will host the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events.

The Annecy Chamonix bid is up against bids from Munich (Germany) and Pyeongchang (South Korea).  Chamonix hosted the first winter olympics in 1924 and is sure to be a popular winter sport supporters choice as many will have ventured to the Chamonix Valley to enjoy their winter sports break.  With Chamonix being only an hour away from Geneva airport and with an abundance of transfer companies to make the connecting journey, access to the venues will be easy.  In addition, the train runs right up through the Chamonix Valley, arriving in the centre of town adjacent to many hotels and bus stops connecting further up the valley.
