Dan Fox - Managing Director
"Most people just drive past Ax, but they are missing a treat! This traditional spa town is a charming step back in time with fantastic regional food. You must try the spa, the multiple pools are amazing! The ski area is small but perfectly formed, the slopes are always quiet and the trees have been planted perfectly for flattering off-piste.". With great value prices you'll be amazed by this hidden gem.

AX LES THERMES

Unbelievably, Ax-Les-Thermes is still fairly unexplored by British ski tourists; just a one and a half hour transfer from Toulouse airport it offers a quieter, cheaper and more distinct experience to that of other French resorts. With each of the 3 skiing areas easily accessible, it certainly feels bigger than its 80km of pisted slopes, and once you are done exploring those (which may take longer than you expect even doing full days!) you can bathe in the hot springs. “Le Bains du Couloubret” is the name of the thermal baths and spa in Ax-Les-Thermes and is definitely worth a visit for those looking to relax the muscles after a great day on the slopes.

Ax-Les-Thermes is at an altitude of 720m and everything in this quaint French town is within walking distance, making it perfect for when you want to take a short stroll to a restaurant or bar. In fact, Ax-Les-Thermes ski resort has plenty of characterful cafes and restaurants to stop off at, and at great value too. Après ski is found on the mountain, conveniently at the Plateau du Bonascre where a post-ski beer can be had in the sun before returning to the characterful bars in Ax-Les-Thermes, where après ski can be enjoyed late into the evening.

Ax-Les-Thermes is a brilliant resort for those looking for a ski weekend away. With a short transfer, a town full of character and great skiing, a couples trip away to Ax-Les-Thermes in the French Pyrenees is a must!

SKI AREA OVERVIEW

Far removed from the busier parts of the French Alps, the Ax 3 Domaines ski area is somewhat of a hidden gem over in the French Pyrenees. The main access to the ski area is from Ax-Les-Thermes, a traditional and characterful old mountain village from where you can take a gondola to Plateau du Bonascre and enter into the Ax 3 Domaines ski area. The skiing itself is great for beginner and intermediate skiers with plenty of runs to play on between the trees. If you are hungry for more, then there is a wealth of off-piste skiing just waiting to be skied, so grab yourself a local guide and strap in for the ride!

With 35 well-groomed slopes and 17 different lifts, the Ax 3 Domaines ski area has much to offer. With both incredible views and an expansive ski area, it is the perfect destination for your family ski trip! Even with snow conditions that could have you skiing all season, there is a myriad of other activities to try. Seize the opportunity to try out some mountain biking on the snow, or perhaps some igloo construction? Or why not just test the views from the sky with tandem paragliding? The pictures are bound to make your friends and family jealous of your ski holiday!
