If you fancy yourself as a bit of a ski weekender, then Igls is the resort for you. Just 15 minutes from the centre of Innsbruck, Igls offers the perfect opportunity for a quick ski break whilst offering a variety of skiing with around 8 other ski resorts within a short drive.

Staying in Innsbruck allows you to get the best of both worlds, and makes it an ideal place if you have a mixture of skiers and non-skiers ensuring both groups will be kept happy! Whilst in Innsbruck there is a vast amount of shopping, drinking and eating on offer, you are never far away from a ski area! This all means that after a day of skiing, you can jump on one of the buses from Igls back to Innsbruck and enjoy the après scene around the city centre where the party can continue through the night in the local clubs.

If that is not for you though, then be sure to dine out as Innsbruck has some beautiful restaurants with some incredible food that won’t leave you chewing over the price! We suggest trying some of the local cuisines for a real taste of the culture, there could be Wurst places to be…!

Igls ski area (also known as the Patscherkofel ski area) is a great all round ski area for short breaks no matter what level of skier or snowboarder you may be. With Innsbruck being a former Winter Olympic host back in 1972, the area is dotted with some awesome runs that are bound to get the heart pumping!

This doesn’t mean, however, that this area is just for downhill skiing adrenaline junkies, far from it in fact, as Igls has some great beginner facilities on offer in both the village and up the mountain – which can be accessed via the Patscherkofelbahn gondola or the Olympiaexpress chairlift. With 18km to play around on – including an Olympic Downhill run and terrain park – Igls is a great location for intermediates, though if you are looking for extreme skiing, you may be best off at one of the other 8 resorts that can be accessed on the ‘Glacier Lift Pass’.

For those less interested in the traditional alpine skiing, then the area also offers some great cross-country skiing with around 200km to tackle. But if you are looking for a truly unique experience why don’t you have a go on the Olympic Bobsleigh Track? We can assure you that you will not be forgetting this in a hurry!
