LA MONGIEFounded in 1948, La Mongie is a purpose built resort with a special character and style. The quiet nightlife and great value prices make it the perfect destination for a family ski holiday. Although much more tranquil than some of your lively French resorts, it still has a good selection of bars, restaurants, and shops. The resort offers a variety of activities such as snowmobile rides, tobogganing, shoeshoeing and you can even go sledging from the Col du Tourmalet after the slopes have closed which is a 3km downhill route! La Mongie is very easy to get to as there are three airports close by, all within two hours’ drive so ski weekends and short ski breaks are perfectly feasible.
SKI AREA OVERVIEW
With access to 240km of skiing, La Mongie is part of one of the largest ski areas in the French Pyrenees; the Tourmalet ski area. With direct links by ski lift to the ski areas in Barages, you get a great variety of slopes which are great for all abilities.
For experts looking for a challenge, there is excellent off-piste in La Mongie, especially from the Pic du Midi however it’s highly recommended that you hire a guide if you wish to ski in this area. The Prade Berde is probably La Mongie's most challenging piste so give that a go if you’re feeling adventurous! Intermediates will enjoy the crusy blues in the ski area above Barages and the open bowl above La Mongie. Beginners should easily be able to find their ski legs on the slopes over at La Laquete.
