Dave Ryding Alpine Skier Sochi 2014

David Ryding has been going downhill for as long as he can remember. It all started with his father Carl, a ski-mad lifelong enthusiast, who took him to the local dry ski slope aged just 6 years old and he then went on to join his local Ski Club. (Pendle).

Carl told David and his sister that if they achieved a good basic level, they would be taken skiing on “real snow”! This was enough of an incentive to get focused and by the age of 8 he was whizzing down the slopes of the French Alps like a natural.

After being picked for the English School Team, he got in the England Ski team and took part in the English and British Championships. By 2006, David was the overall winner at the British Junior Championships and after A levels and a year in the high intensity British Development Team, he was picked for the British Team as a senior.

In January 2010, David was pleased to be able to represent Great Britain as part of Team GB in Vancouver, finishing 27th in the Men’s Slalom and 47th in the Men’s Giant Slalom.

David now spends the winter months training in the snow, then for 12-15 weeks during the summer, on a world class programme.

Good luck to David at Sochi and hopefully all his hard work will pay off.
