ENGELBERG - THE RESORT
Engelberg is the perfect resort for that truly amazing winter wonderland experience. With a season lasting from October to May, plenty of varied skiing, excellent off-piste opportunities and loads of activities off the slopes, there is something for everyone of all ages.
A short transfer from Zurich airport makes Engelberg an ideal option for a ski weekend in Switzerland. There are also fantastic transport links to other major cities in Switzerland, so off the slopes, you can easily explore other parts of the country.
As well as stunning scenery, skiers and snowboarders are spoilt for choice in Engelberg, with excellent off-piste and on-piste at 2500m or above, and a glacier on its doorstep you are guaranteed snow throughout the season.
There are some 20 wonderful mountain restaurants ranging from cafeteria style to more intimate table service establishments. In the resort, there are 50 restaurants to choose from ranging from the best Swiss/French gourmet meals to budget pizzerias.
As for the non-skiers or people looking to spend a day off the slopes, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained such as the indoor swimming pool with sauna and steam baths, paragliding or there is even an excellent sports centre complete with tennis, badminton and ice skating. For fun on the slopes you can try the 3.5km toboggan run from Gerschnialp, 38km of prepared walks or use the rubber tubes on the Wet n’ Wild snow amusement park.
As for nightlife, there are loads of lively après venues found both at the bottom of the slopes and in the main resort. There are some excellent pubs and bars playing live music so once the skiing comes to an end, there is still plenty around to keep you occupied in the evening!
