Sauze d’Oulx is the liveliest of the five villages that form the 400km Milky Way ski area. The tree-lined plateaus, wide pistes and delightful scenery offer the ideal winter retreat for every level of skier.

Like the majority of the Milky Way, this is an intermediates playground and is known to be a red run paradise. Those that are fans of tree-runs are in luck, as the resort itself is surrounded by trees and you’ll find that many of the best runs in the area are tree-runs that lead back down to the village.

Beginners will find suitable slopes at the foot of the Clotes chairlift, which also takes you up to the main ski area where the majority of lessons take place. Regular shuttle buses also provide an alternative for beginners looking to explore more of the Milky Way ski area!

There aren't too many difficult runs nearby for expert skiers to try – the best black runs are a good way from the village. However, you will find some fun off-piste to explore between the trees; hiring a guide is the best way to explore some of this untouched terrain.

For snowboarders there’s a terrain park complete with jumps and rails. Advanced riders will also be able to enjoy the off-piste opportunities amongst the trees on the lower slopes after warming up on some of the cruisier runs in resort!

    The resort

Sauze d’Oulx is renowned for its après-ski culture and great-value skiing. Although quieter now than what it used to be, this lively Alpine village still makes for the perfect retreat to ski the Italian Alps. Surrounded by the neighbouring slopes of the Milky Way ski area, this village is located high on the sunny balcony of the Susa Valley.

Situated only 1 hr 30 minutes from the closest airport means it’s a great option for ski weekends, so skiers and snowboarders can take a short ski holiday and get maximum time on the snow.

Once you’ve spent the best part of your day exploring the piste, your nights can be spent tasting some authentic Italian cuisine or sipping a cocktail in a bustling bar.

The main part of town is small, with lively bars spread throughout that accommodate most of the lively après-ski fans. However, if you venture further down the cobbled streets of the old town, you’ll discover some of the authentic Italian culture and cuisine in old traditional mountain village buildings.

With shops ranging from clothing boutiques to family friendly pizzerias, non-skiers are also well catered for with a number of activities such as snowshoe excursions and ice-skating!
