In a ski area largely dominated by old-school concrete throwbacks and brisk, party-happy valley towns, the Les Gets ski resort is a true rustic oasis, a village that has managed to retain it's uniquely Savoyard identity while quietly reinventing itself as a slick modern ski resort.
The first ski lift was opened here in 1938, and the resort has never looked back. Families in particular love Les Gets. Only an hour's transfer from Geneva airport means it is easy to get to and the resort has great English-speaking ski schools and safe nursery slopes for the kids.
In the village itself, free shuttle buses and motorised trains mean the streets tend to be car-free, something that adds to the welcoming, laidback atmosphere of a ski holiday in Les Gets.
If you're looking for village charm, a short transfer and access to a snow sure, large ski area (the Portes du Soleil offers 650km of skiable piste), then ski holidays in Les Gets should be on your shortlist.

SKI AREA OVERVIEW
At first sight, the two areas that make up the Les Gets ski area (Chavannes and Mont-Chery) seem relatively small, but don't be deceived, as there's much more to Les Gets than first meets the eye.
Les Gets itself is linked with Morzine and the whole area is included in the local lift pass, and between the two resorts there are around 50 lifts. The ski area is surrounded by beautiful tree lined runs which mainly consist of blues and reds. There is also a terrific area accessed via. the Chavannes lift known as "The Bowl" into which numerous ski runs and chairlifts feed.
Mont Chéry is Les Gets jewel in the crown with black runs and numerous reds and a fantastic snowpark for those who like to throw themselves off things!
If you are more adventurous and want to cover more kilometres, you can upgrade to a full area ski pass to explore more of the Portes du Soleil. This will enable you to ski into Avoriaz and onto Switzerland taking in resorts such as Les Crosets and Champoussin. The Portes du Soleil is a fantastic ski area, and well worth considering for those who like to cover large areas. Travel from Les Gets to Avoriaz takes between 1h 30 - 2 hours depending on your experience level and lift queues.

- The view from the top of The Point du Nyon is exceptional and providing it is clear you will be able to see Mont Blanc in the distance.
- Visit the Mont Chery ski area. This hidden gem is well worth half a day of your holiday.
- The local market is on in the town centre on Thursdays. Browse the local stalls of cheeses/saucisson or even great value fleeces and sunglasses.
- There are often events in the evening in Les Gets. Check with your chalet host or the Tourist Office to see what is on while you are there.
- Morgins village centre is a great rest stop for lunch whilst circumnavigating the whole of the Portes du Soleil.
