What do We Love About Skiing In Sweden?

Often when people think of skiing in Scandinavia they think of cold, short days of skiing in the dark, they do not think of the luxurious yet friendly resorts that you actually find in countries like Sweden and Norway. When you ski in Sweden you are surrounded by classy resorts, beautiful mountains and if you're lucky you may even find yourself skiing under the Northern Lights!

Swedish ski resorts are perfect for family and/or group ski holidays as they cater to all ski abilities, with large resorts that have excellent wide beginner slopes through to challenging black runs, amazing off-piste* skiing for those really advanced skiers and everything else in between! The off-piste in Sweden is actually so good that many freeride skiers come and base themselves in Swedish resorts for the winters. Look out for the freeride and freestyle skiers/snowboarders performing daring tricks and jumping off mountainsides, it's quite a sight!

Swedish ski resorts have elegant restaurants, with stylish, refined food, and pristine luxury accommodation with beautiful rooms and spa facilities. You can return from a long day of hard skiing to a relaxing hotel room or take a trip to a sauna in your luxury hotel. Some hotels will even have swimming pools and massage services for those who really want to unwind.

Resorts in Sweden, like Are, have an amazing apres ski scene but still managed to be family friendly, truly a ski destination for everyone, from the hardcore skiers to the complete novices! Other activities such as husky dog sledging, paragliding, and tobogganing can entertain those who don't ski during the day and everyone else after the skiing is over.

Compared to central European resorts the slopes are beautifully wide and empty but don't be fooled. The charming locals have been skiing since they could walk so don't feel you need to keep up as they bomb down the slopes in the most friendly way someone can whilst speeding past you on the snow!

Swedish ski resorts like Åre, make for perfect ski holidays for both groups and families amongst others, so no matter how enthusiastic of a skier you may be, there is always something to do!

*Ski Weekends strongly advise that off-piste skiing should only be undertaken when in the company of a professional ski instructor or guide.
