If you're wondering what the SkiWeekends catered chalet experience is like, and to make sure you know what to expect, we've put together a guide for you to understand what to expect.
The Great British Chalet Holiday isn't simply a way of going skiing. It's one of Britain's greatest travel traditions. Laughing with people who just a few days earlier you may have never met, over afternoon tea or around the dinner table while your chalet host serves up delicious wholesome home made food with French wine. No shopping, cooking, cleaning or deposits – simply lots of fun and friendship in the chalet and on the slopes.
When you book a SkiWeekends catered chalet, you'll be well looked after by our Ski Experts,Customer Support Team, Chalet Hosts and Resort Managers to ensure your ski holiday runs as smoothly as possible.
Arrival
You can arrive at your chalet anytime from 9:30am to have a cup of tea, change, leave your bags and go skiing. Upon arrival at the chalet you'll be met by your Chalet Host(s) and given a warm welcome.
If you have pre-purchased your lift passes, these will be waiting for you in the chalet. Hopefully you also pre-purchased your ski/snowboard equipment, and if so your Chalet Hosts will direct you to the equipment hire shop, then you can get straight on the slopes!
Your bedroom(s) will be ready by 5pm at the latest, but usually earlier. Afternoon tea, coffee and a freshly made cake will also be waiting for you on your return to the chalet in the afternoon.
Once everyone has arrived, your Chalet Hosts will introduce themselves and explain a bit about the chalet and the resort before answering any questions you may have, and leave you to settle in.
Welcome Drink
Around 7pm on your first night, your Chalet Hosts will pour everyone a glass of sparkling wine (or non-alcoholic alternative). This is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow guests and share the days stories.
If you stay in one of our VIP Chalets (Poudreuse, Cascade or Mouria) you will get canapes too on your first night!
Dinner Service
The chalet dinner service generally begins around 7:30pm, and includes three courses* of delicious, home-cooked food. You will be able to enjoy your meal with free-flowing white / red / rose wine.
Please remember to request any special dietary requirements and children's menus before you travel, to ensure we can provide these for you. We will do our very best to accommodate any likes and dislikes during your stay.
* If you stay in one of our VIP Chalets you will enjoy a 4-course meal, with a cheese board or petit fours as the extra course. You will also get upgraded, bottled wine. View our tasting notes here for VIP chalet wine.
You can find a sample menu for our dinner service here. This is just an example and the exact style of the food we serve is subject to change according to supply and location.
You can be assured that all SkiWeekends chalet food will be hearty, mountain-influenced and created using local products, wherever possible. There will be at least one evening during your stay when you will be served the very popular Savoyard dishes of either Raclette or Tartiflette.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in our chalets from 8am, and guests are free to use the facilities to make tea and coffee any time. Breakfast will consist of a different hot option each day**, porridge with sprinkles (except on hosts mornings off) as well as a continental breakfast.
** If you stay in one of our VIP Chalets you will get the option of a full English breakfast every morning (except the hosts mornings off).
Lunch Baguette To Go
After breakfast, grab yourself a French baguette, some butter, ham, cheese, Nutella, jam...whatever you can get your hands on, and make your own lunch baguette to take out with you onto the mountain.
Afternoon Tea
After skiing and apres ski, you can enjoy a freshly baked cake along with French bread and preserves, as well as a selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate (syrup/cordials available too) to help you warm up after a day on the slopes.
Departure
You'll need to vacate your chalet bedrooms on the last day of your trip by 9am. If your flight home isn’t until much later, or if you would like to go skiing that day and need somewhere to keep your belongings, you will be able to store them in the chalet during the day. There will be somewhere to change and shower on your return from the slopes, leaving you feeling fresh for the journey home. There will even be tea and caked for you, All departing guests must leave the chalet no later than 5pm.
Please note that on guest change over days, between the hours of 9:30am and 5pm, both departing and arriving guests will be sharing the chalet public areas.
