Chamonix - Argentiere

Tucked away at the northern end of the Chamonix Valley beneath the towering peaks of Mont Blanc, Argentière is one of the Alps' great hidden gems.

While neighbouring Chamonix attracts the crowds, Argentière offers a quieter, more traditional mountain village with immediate access to one of Europe's most legendary ski areas.

For skiers seeking exceptional snow, dramatic scenery and challenging terrain, Argentière ski holidays are hard to beat. The village sits directly beneath the famous Grands Montets ski area, renowned for its steep pistes, long vertical descents and world-class off-piste skiing. Thanks to its high altitude and north-facing slopes, snow conditions are among the most reliable in France, often lasting well into spring.  Many off-piste courses including introduction to off-piste skiing and off-piste improvement are held in this ski area.  

Despite its reputation for expert skiing, Argentière isn't exclusively for advanced skiers. Beginner skiers can learn on gentle nursery slopes close to the village and higher up around Lognan where green and gentle blue runs can be found.  Confident intermediates will enjoy the long red runs before exploring the wider Chamonix Valley.

The Chamonix 'Le Pass' lift ticket also includes Brévent-Flégère and Le Tour-Balme, giving skiers and boarders access to a huge variety of terrain on both North and South facing slopes throughout their stay, using the Chamonix Valley buses that run day and night.

The village itself has retained its authentic Alpine charm. Traditional Savoyard buildings (including SkiWeekends two ski-in/ski-out catered chalets), welcoming restaurants and cosy bars create a relaxed atmosphere that's ideal after a day on the mountain. A few of our favourites are Fubar (fun sports bar with a bucking bronco!), Petit Verte  (traditional Savoyard restarant), Le Rencard (pizza) and the Office(tacos, poke salad).   Unlike larger purpose-built resorts, Argentière feels like a genuine mountain community where visitors quickly settle into village life. 

For anyone looking for short ski breaks in Argentière, its location couldn't be more convenient. Geneva Airport is only around 90 minutes away, making it easy to maximise time on the slopes. Train travel through the Chamonix Valley and further to Martigny and Geneva is easy to access with a train station located in the centre of Argentière.

Skiing In Argentiere & Grands Montets

The Grands Montets ski area is widely regarded as one of the finest high-mountain ski destinations in Europe.

Rising from Argentière to over 2,700 metres, it combines steep groomed pistes, long vertical descents and legendary off-piste terrain beneath the glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif.

Snow quality is exceptional throughout the season thanks to the area's altitude and predominantly north-facing aspect, while your Chamonix Valley (le pass) lift pass also provides access to Brévent-Flégère and Le Tour-Balme for even greater variety.

The Panda Club ski school has been a firm family learn to ski favourite for many years for 3 to 12 year olds.  The area immediately at the ski school meeting area is perfect for beginners and with the re-opening of the Lognan gondola for winter 26/27, the higher Grands Montets terrain becomes easily accessible for beginner skiers too.
