Indoor Activities
If the weather takes a turn, there’s plenty to keep you entertained throughout the Chamonix valley. Head into Chamonix for a swim (lanes and fun slide pool) or workout at the sports centre, scale some less snowy heights on the indoor climbing wall or swap the mountains for the ice-rink. You can either skate or catch an ice hockey match with the local pros “Le Pioneers”.
For something more relaxed, settle in for a film at the cinema, big mountain films are often shown (be sure to check the movie is in the right language or subtitled for you) or explore the valley’s museums and exhibitions. Mountain lovers should have a look into the newly renovated Mont Blanc Museum.
Continuing with the mountain exploration theme, a trip up the infamous Aguile de Midi at 3,800m is a must and step into the void in a glass cabin if you dare. Another great Chamonix experience is taking the Montenvers train, visit the refuge and go inside the Mere de glace ice cave.
After a day on the mountain, unwind at one of the valley’s many spas and wellness centres (QC Terme is popular), with everything from massages and treatments to pools and relaxation areas. Sit in on some yoga and sound bath classes too.
Argentiere itself has a good choice of bars, cafes and restaurants, while Chamonix is only a short journey away if you fancy a large choice of shops, restaurants and nightlife.
Outdoor Activities
Argentiere is made for outdoor adventure. Take in the snowy scenery on a snowshoe walk or try cross-country skiing and explore the quieter side of the Chamonix valley. For something more adventurous, book a dog-sledding experience, fat bike cycling or try ice-climbing on frozen waterfalls or head out ski touring with a mountain guide.
Families can head to Les Chosalets, Argentiere’s beginner ski area, where alongside gentle slopes you’ll find a dedicated snow-tubing track and sledging area.
For experienced skiers looking for something a little more exhilarating, Argentiere sits directly beneath Les Grands Montets, renowned for its steep terrain, excellent snow and legendary freeride opportunities. If you want to try a completely new skill, children and adults alike can try their hand at some Biathlon training which is cross country skiing and having a steady aim while you hit targets with a laser gun!
If you’re looking for a real bucket-list experience, the wider Chamonix valley offers everything from paragliding and speed-riding to the famous Vallee Blanche, giving you plenty to discover away from the regular pistes.
