Booking a group ski hen/stag do: What do you need to know?

girl group on the slopes

Every best man or maid of honour wants to ensure that the stag/hen do they organise is one that will never be forgotten...

These days, it’s a lot of pressure to come up with something original that will put a smile on the bride or groom-to-be’s face, but we may have a solution for you.

Don’t bother with the standard city break, head to the slopes and celebrate in style. Not only will you and your party get the adrenaline rush of the piste, but many ski resorts around Europe also have an incredible nightlife - a must have for all stag/hen dos!

But before you book a group ski holiday of this nature, there are a few things you have to consider:

Pick a country

France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria make up some of the best skiing countries in Europe and within them, there are many resorts to choose from. This can make booking an actual destination for your group a little tricky, solely because there is just so much variety!

When making this decision, you will need to consider the time of year that you want to go as this will determine what kind of snow is available and if the resort is even open at all.

Check the snow forecast

Ski season usually starts officially in December in Europe, making it the best time to hit the slopes. However, stag/hen dos generally have to be sorted out within a timeframe that suits the wedding, and so this might not be possible.

But don’t worry, there are other times that you can go skiing. Most resorts will be open from November to April, giving you a much wider window of opportunity to go.

Once you know when and where you are going, you can check the snow forecast for that area.

Go with a good operator

Once you’re on the mountain, all you want to worry about is having fun and so a good operator who can take care of all the little things is essential.

Some members of your party may need to hire equipment, whereas others may be complete beginners and all these details need to be accounted for.

Research the nightlife

No stag or hen party would be complete without at least one big night to remember and, as such, a resort’s nightlife can be just as important as its powder.

This is a big factor when booking your location as different places have very different scenes in terms of evening activities. For example, Meribel, France, has a fantastic Apres Ski scene, with stylish pubs and jumping nightclubs galore but there are some resorts, such as Engelberg, Switzerland, that are more catered to families.

A little research beforehand can help you to book the perfect holiday, one that is likely to be remembered for a long time to come!
