Tree Runs - Our Favourites!

Tree runs - our favourite!

There are fantastic little ‘rabbit runs’ all over the valleys and they’re not too hard to find either. Accessible from the piste, tree runs are great fun even when it’s not snowing. Sometimes they’re just short diversions off the piste and other times you can follow a track for a good few minutes. Sometimes you cross over little bridges, you may see an animal or two and then you pop out back on the original piste like stepping back through the wardrobe.

The best way to find these great little runs is simply to look along the side of the piste for some well-skied tracks disappearing into the trees. But one of our favourites is on the ‘Truite’ run from Meribel Mottaret down to Meribel Chaudanne. There’s a curved stone wall on your left about halfway down. Head up there for a fast little rat run full of banked turns.

It goes without saying though, these are not pisted runs and they are not always the perfect skiing terrain. Only try these runs if you are a competent skier and comfortable with uneven, icy or bumpy conditions. If you are, then grab your helmet and a buddy and go and enjoy a little piece of Narnia!
