New Lift 'Jandri Express' Opening In Les Deux Alpes This Winter
Currently under construction but scheduled for opening at the start of the 2024/25 ski season, Les Deux Alpes is almost ready to unveil its brand new gondola lift, The Jandri Express. Providing access to the high altitude glacier area, The Jandri Express is a two-section gondola lift which will whisk skiers up to to 3200m in a much reduced time frame.
Time spent on the lift will be cut from 40 minutes down to just 17, thanks to this brand new introduction - an ultra modern, 3S style lift. This facility transports skiers and pedestrians to the high-altitude area to reach the funicular and access 3400m and the "Destination 3400" experience.
Sata Group, who are also responsible for the lifts and operation in Alpe d’Huez and La Grave, is injecting 135 million euros into the replacement of the DMC Jandri Express, the backbone of the Les 2 Alpes resort. Originally built in 1985, the lift is well overdue for upgrade and will significantly update the resort infrastructure.
A welcome update for skiers, snowboarders and pedestrians alike, the faster speed of the ultra-stable 3S lift promises greater capacity of 3,000 people per hour. The lift will bring more skiers up the mountain, but will also offer an improved experience with a more spacious cabin and comfortable seating.
The choice of new lift ultimately led to Poma's 3S technology, based on two carrier cables and a towing cable. The update will reduce the number of stanchions to 7, down from the current 17, helping to preserve the alpine environment. Up to 57 cabins with 32 spaces (including 25 seats) will transport skiers, pedestrians and people with reduced mobility, in both winter and summer.
