Those taking short ski holidays in La Plagne could make considerable savings by purchasing a Plagne'Pass card.

Available at the resort's tourist office, the chip cards allow holidaymakers to top them up with money, which is then converted into units.

Holidaymakers can then use their cards at various shops and restaurants around the resort, enjoying a discount of around 20 per cent, Laplagnet.com reports.

"It's also a way to go out for a day's skiing without the need to take any cash and therefore can be ideal for all members of the family to carry one," the website stated.

The initiative was launched this season and, according to Maison du Tourisme d'Aime, over 3,000 cards have already been snapped up and plans are now in place to extend the scheme across other areas.

Developed during the 19th century, the La Plagne ski area comprises six high-altitude mountain resorts.
