Gap Year Work Placements

Working during your gap year is a great way to gain experience, improve your CV and earn money at the same time, our Snow Academy courses enable you to do just that. Whether the full 11-week ski instructor course or the Chalet Host Cookery Course, there's something for everyone looking to spend a winter in the mountains.

Instructor Courses

Our ski and snowboard instructor training courses give you the opportunity to attain qualifications awarded by CSIA, CASI and BASI. These organisations are members of the International Ski Instructors Alliance (ISIA) which is the world body for ski and snowboard instructors. Despite each national body having their own teaching methods and certification system, qualifications gained through their courses have international recognition.

Ski/Snowboard Instructor Jobs

We are proud to have a very high success rate on our instructor training courses and many people have gained ski jobs at the resorts that we work with. If you obtain a Canadian work visa, you could spend the rest of your gap year or winter season training, living and working in the spectacular Canadian Rockie.

For the 11 week courses, many of our trainees have returned to the resort where they trained to work as an instructor, as the nature of the courses have mutual benefits for both the ski and snowboard schools and your own personal development. After spending up to 3 months of training with the instructors, you will be considered a potential asset to the ski and snowboard school, possessing the relevant skills, knowledge and experience of how they operate on a day to day basis. The resort can sponsor your visa for you to work there as a ski or snowboard instructor.

Working in Other Resorts Worldwide

The qualifications you can gain through our courses enable you to work as an instructor in various countries around the world, so you may wish to expand your horizons and seek employment at another resort. There remains a huge demand for qualified ski and snowboard instructors at resorts worldwide so once you have your qualifications the world is your oyster!

Work In The Alps As a Chalet Host

The Snow Academy Chalet School teaches you everything you need to know about running your own chalet. If you want to ski in your free time during your gap year but don't want to teach it, this could be a great alternative. Many participants from the chalet cookery course actually go on to get jobs with Ski Weekends for the winter but interviews are arranged for other companies too. For the past 3 years of the course, everyone that wanted a job afterwards had a job offer before they went home from the course! The benefit of working in Europe is that you don't have to worry about visas.
