Isola 2000

Ski info
  • Ski area

Located just over 90 kilometres away from Nice, Isola 2000 is the closest high altitude resort to the Côte d'Azur. This actually means that the area receives most of its snowfall from the storms that move into the Western Mediterranean, and is often more snowsure than most other resorts in the Alps - but it also means that you can expect some bluebird days as well!

The ski area itself has around 120 kilometres of slopes with 7 green runs for beginners to build up their confidence and a wide mixture of blue and red runs over an expansive area for intermediate skiers looking to travel reasonable distances over variable terrain. The 20 lifts in the resort make it easily accessible and you are never too far away from the main village!

For advanced skiers and snowboarders there are 3 black runs in resort and some steep reds, but there is an opportunity to hit the terrain park or try out some of the challenging wooded off-piste runs in the area with a guide. However, with a further 130km of skiing available in Auron (which is covered in the full area pass) there really is no shortage of pistes to master.

    The resort

The Isola 2000 ski resort was built in the 1970’s, with its convenient location making it an ideal spot for couples, families or groups looking for a short ski-break away to the Southern Alps. A compact French resort, Isola 2000 is located at an altitude of 2000m on the border with Italy in the Southern Alps, and with its short transfer times, it is an ideal option for a short break. Being a purpose built resort means that it has a network of indoor walkways that link the main resort shops, bars and hotels so there is little need to wrap up at night!

Location is a key strength; as the resort is not far from Nice and the coast, Isola 2000 is generally a sunny resort – great news for the fair-weather skiers! Even more, on a sunny day the views from the top of the mountain are so clear that it is sometimes possible to see the Mediterranean!

As a more family orientated ski resort, the nightlife is not particularly wild, although there is still enough on offer with several bars and a couple of nightclubs to keep the party-goers happy. There is also the opportunity to drive on an ice circuit or go on a snowmobile tour – a good option for the non-skiers after some exhilaration.

Isola 2000 is paired with the village of Isola, located a bit further down the road. A trip to Isola does not take long, only around 30 minutes, but it does have plenty to offer with an aqua centre to keep the kids happy, and for those culture vultures; there is a museum to immerse yourself in the history of the area.
