What do we love about Sierra Nevada

Skier skiing down to the central slopes of Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada offers a very different ski holiday experience to most resorts you’ll have visited before!  Most immediately apparent is that you’re in Andalucía in southern Spain, and although the ski centre is on mainland Spain’s highest peak, far above the beaches and olive groves, you drive through coastal Mediterranean scenery and then the ancient city of Grenada, a UNESCO World Heritage site on your way up there – which feels very different.

Sierra Nevada itself too is very different, quick and easy to reach from Grenada or Malaga airports, along with its extensive ski slopes it has got a compact, pedestrianised centre with a fun, vibrant atmosphere, helped in part by the fact that eating and drinking are so affordable (expect to pay 2 Euros for a drink with a free tapas thrown in – the norm here) and in part because of the youthful crowds that flock up from university city Grenada below.

Despite its southerly location (It’s the most southerly resort in Europe in fact, as well as one of the highest) it has an impressive snowfall reputation, backed up by a massive snowmaking arsenal, and often stays open into May with the snow base metres thick.
