Those looking for the perfect short ski holiday destination should consider a break in the French resort of Alpe d'Huez, it has been claimed.

Writing in the Times, Belinda Archer said the resort was ideal for those who didn't have time to hit the slopes for a whole week.

Situated in the Grandes Rousses Massif, Alpe d' Huez is a bustling resort with something for everyone and an excellent range of visitor facilities.

"There is skiing and boarding for everybody at this French resort, close to both Grenoble and Lyons, although it is particularly good for beginners," she commented.

A resort which enjoys plenty of sunshine, Alpe d'Huez really is "in the big league", Ms Archer added.

Other top weekend destinations include Meribel, which is perfect for a cheap getaway, along with the nearby resort of Brides Les Bains.

In other news, those looking for a cheap ski holiday will be pleased to learn that according to foreign exchange firm HiFX, sterling has already risen by 12 per cent against the euro since the start of the year.
