BAD GASTEIN SKI AREA
Beginners should head to Schlossalm in Bad Hofgastein. This area offers something for everyone - from action and enjoyment on the fun slope, to the wide pistes and slopes providing you with the ultimate joy of skiing. These are accessible via the Schlossalmbahn.
Intermediates will be spoilt for choice. Have a go at the longest red run around (11km!) on Schlossalm, or for those adrenaline junkies looking for a challenge and deep-snow excitement, you'll find your own corner of heaven here on Sportgastein, the region’s highest ski area (2.650 m). From fresh powder and groomed slopes, this area offers loads.
The Stubnerkogel area above Bad Gastein provides breathtaking 360° panoramic views of the surrounding mountain landscape, and also has something for every skier and snowboarder. The infamous 140 m long suspension bridge and scenic lookout points are also available here.
There aren't too many black runs for Advanced skiers, but the steep reds and freeriding will keep you occupied for days. There are black runs on Sportgastein and Dorfgastein, but Graukogel is the place to be for those looking for a challenge.
Off Piste*
Bad Gastein is known as something of a freeride hotspot within Austria. The mountains here offer expert powder-skiers wide northern slopes with fabulous all-day powder, fast tree runs, gullies and even big mountain descents. In Bad Gastein the Stubnerkogel attracts the freeride crowd, with good options near the Jungeralm, while the Schlossalm offers lift access to many of its best off-piste descents.
Sportgastein is another great spot, with abundant snowfalls creating deep snow slopes without the need for a long ascent. Three marked ski routes make access easy for freeriders and waist-deep snow is par for the course.
