Schladming Night Race – The Nightrace, Planai
Experience the world's most electric ski race: the Schladming Night Race, known simply as THE NIGHTRACE. Held every January under floodlights on the Planai finish slope, this FIS Alpine Ski World Cup fixture pairs elite night slalom and giant slalom racing with an unmatched party atmosphere in the heart of Schladming.
Since its debut in 1997, the Planai has regularly hosted night slalom, the highest-attended race on the World Cup circuit. The first World Cup night slalom drew around 27,000 fans, and today up to 45,000–50,000 ski fans pack the finish stadium and the town's famous "World Cup Mile" for two nights of world-class racing, music, and celebration.
Why it's a must-see:
- Two race nights — a night giant slalom followed by the legendary night slalom
- The world's best slalom skiers competing on the steep, technically demanding Planai piste
- A floodlit stadium atmosphere with music, flares, and thousands of fans
- A sustainable, mobile LED floodlight system lighting the slope after dark Schladming-Dachstein
- 2027 marks the race's 30th anniversary, taking place on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 January 2027
Whether guests are watching from the grandstand or soaking up the atmosphere in Schladming's town centre, the Nightrace is an unforgettable addition to any Austrian ski holiday.
