Grand Hotel des Alpes has played a major part in the history of Chamonix since its origins in 1840. Playing host to visiting British aristocracy as they scaled the heights of the major peaks surrounding the historic and famous Chamonix. Having undergone major renovations in 2004 and 2019 the hotel is a wonderful mix of historic elegance and modern luxury.
On the ground floor of the hotel there is a wonderful lounge area with a balcony overlooking the river and stunning views of Mont Blanc. The bar is a perfect place to unwind at the end of the day.
In the spa which opens out into the gardens there is an indoor pool with water jets and jacuzzi. Downstairs there is a salt well next to massage and treatment rooms (payable locally). A sauna and steam room are also available to help soothe away those aches and pains.
Every morning a sumptuous buffett breakfast awaits with a selection of hot drinks and continental breakfast as well as sweet or savory crepes, scrambled eggs, omelette, fried eggs, soft boiled eggs, bacon and sausages.
Every day, the Grand Hôtel des Alpes takes care of you as usual by offering you two buffets a day: a sweet buffet from 4:00 p.m. for afternoon tea and an aperitif buffet (appetizers) from 6.30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The location of the hotel in the heart of Chamonix means there is huge range of restaurants on hand with a variety of cusines to suit all budgets and tastes. The hotel has also partnered with local restaurants to allow guests to enjoy a food delivery to their room or suite.
Rooms
The hotels 30 double or twin rooms, including 3 suites are refined and cosy with light and bright wood paneling. They are equipped with a flat screen TV, radio, safe, minibar, kettle with courtesy set and free wi-fi connection.
Classic - Small room, 17 sqm, with a queen size bed (on request, 2 separate beds). Bathroom with shower or bathtub.
Brevent - Double room 20 sqm minimum size, with a king size bed (possibility to have 2 separate beds). Bathroom with bathtub or shower.
Riverside - Double room 20 sqm minimum size with a double king size bed (on request, 2 separate beds and the possibility to add a third bed). Bathroom with bathtub.
Mont Blanc -Double room (22sqm minimum size) with a king size bed (possibility to have 2 separate beds). Some of these rooms are large enough to add an extra bed and some of them have a balcony.
Honeymoon - The Honeymoon room is ornamented with wooden beams and old wood, giving it a romantic and magical atmosphere. A duplex situated on the 6th floor, it is accessible by one flights of stairs from the 5th floor, it is literally at the top of the tower. You will be able to enjoy fully through its porthole like windows the beauty of the surrounding summits.
Brevent - 36sqm Suite composed of a double bedroom and a lounge area with convertible sofa (pull out beds). A sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room. This Suite can welcome up to 4 people. Bathroom with balneotherapy bathtub and separate shower.
Mont Blanc Suite - 40 sqm Suite, composed of a double bedroom and a lounge area with convertible sofa (pull out beds). A sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room.

Old Tower Suite - 52 sqm chalet style Suite with a double room and lounge area, Jacuzzi on the bedroom floor, bathroom with shower. The sofa in the living room is convertible and becomes a double bed. This Suite can welcome up to 4 people..
Location
Situated in the heart of Chamonix only a short walk from the famous L’Aiguille du Midi cable car and the bustling centre of town. The hotel has a free shuttle service to the ski lifts (on request and at scheduled times).
Please note: L’Aiguille du Midi cable car accesses a viewing platform for pedestrians and the Vallee Blanche glacier itinerary route, which should only be attempted with a local guide.

Flexible arrival days. Minimum stay is 3 nights, subject to seasonal variation with 7 nights minimum on peak dates.

Useful Information
The hotel has a private garage with electric car charging points, lift passes can be booked at reception, restaurant booking service, mountain guide and ski instructor booking service, ski and boot room. Free shuttle to the slopes.
Resort Tax is payable locally and charged at €3.00 per person per day.
