Half Term Skiing!

Family skiing at half-term

With February half-term in full swing, many of us dread the thought of heading to the slopes knowing that most of the UK will be waiting for us in the lift queue when we arrive. The thought of a ten-hour Saturday transfer from Geneva is enough to put anyone off skiing for life! But fear not! There are plenty of ways to beat the queues and actually enjoy some February skiing.

1) Avoid the Saturday-Saturday holiday Although Saturday appears the most logical day to fly out to make the most of the half-term break, the rest of the population have also had this idea. Saturdays are the busiest days of the week for airport and roads in the Alps even during the quieter parts of the season. Avoid starting your trip with stress and delays and consider a shorter break. Why not fly out on Monday and head home on Thursday? Skip the queues at Geneva and get more skiing and less stress.

2) Pick your resort carefully don't just choose a less well-known resort. Even the more famous resorts can offer decent February skiing. The 3 Valleys, for example, has some of the fastest lift systems in Europe and as the largest linked ski area in the world, there are great hidden gems to be found, such as Orelle, which offer quieter skiing even during busy periods. A lot of people choose resorts with shorter transfer times for their February ski break. If you don’t mind just an extra hour or two with the transfer driver then why not try a resort further afield? La Plagne and Les Arcs offer great skiing just 2 ½ hours from Geneva

3) Why the Alps? Ever wanted to try skiing in Sweden? Or Spain?! Ski Weekends offer trips to these perfect half term spots. The Swedish resort of Åre is great for a week break with so much to do off the slopes too! Sierra Nevada in Spain is a unique skiing experience and just 45 minutes transfer from Granada or 2 hours from Malaga. Why not try something different with your family this season?
