The Mountain
Nestled in the scenic Gastein valley, Bad Hofgastein offers an ideal playground for intermediate skiers.
Bad Hofgastein is divided into five main sectors, each offering its own unique skiing experience:
- Schlossalm area: The main access point to Bad Hofgastein’s ski slopes, offering a mix of terrain for all skill levels
- Angertal Ski Centre: A beginner-friendly hub with gentle slopes and great facilities for ski lessons
- Stubnerkogel area: Next to Bad Gastein, this spot is known for its more challenging terrain and stunning views, including a popular suspension bridge
- Graukogel area: Favoured by advanced skiers for its natural, ungroomed runs through ancient pine forests
- Kreuzkogel: The highest peak in the Gastein Valley, Kreuzkogel offers challenging runs and deep snow, making it a top choice for experienced skiers
Stay local and play on 86km of piste or explore the 197km of the whole Gastein Valley. From tree-lined trails to expansive sunny bowls, the diverse terrain here caters to every taste. Start your adventure by taking the funicular from the town centre, and don’t miss the 10.5km red run from the top of the Hohe Scharte, one of the longest descents in the Alps.
The Town
The town, set in the heart of a forested valley, is full of Austrian charm. You'll find much more to do than just skiing, in this year round resort.
Bad Hofgastein is an Alpine spa town, known for its hot springs and natural thermal water, a trip here isn’t complete without a spa visit. Or take a stroll through the cobbled streets and check out the old buildings with their painted shutters and frescoed walls.
The après-ski scene here is low-key, featuring cozy bars and cafés where you can share your ski stories over a warming glühwein.
With cultural events happening throughout the season and other activities from snowshoeing to tobogganing on offer, there’s plenty to do here for skiers and non skiers alike.
Getting Here
The closest airport is Salzburg, from here it only takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive from the airport to the centre of town, making it perfect for a short break ski holiday.
For a more sustainable option you can take the train from Salzburg to Bad Hofgastein. Simply take the bus or take a 15-minute taxi from the airport to Salzburg central station, hop on the train and relax as you take the scenic 1.5 hour journey to the Gastein Valley, before hopping in a taxi at the other end.
