The James Blunt Lift, Verbier

There is a ski lift at 8,858 feet that is named after the British musician who sang You're Beautiful.

Were you aware of this little fact about the ski resort in Verbier? This and other information will be common knowledge to you're a regular visitor to Verbs.

So why has a piece of mountain infrastructure been named after the hitmaker? Well, it turns out that James Blunt is a big fan of skiing, and Verbier in particular.

He is among the many famous faces that like to spend a week or two at the resort during the winter months, but unlike others, he has gone a step further.

Blunt helped to open panoramic restaurant in Verbier, located in an old converted ski lift station, next to the top of the Les Attelas chairlift. The great value restaurant, previously known as La Vache, closed in 2022.

He joined forces with Lawrence Dallaglio of rugby fame and Carl Fogarty, the former World Superbike champion, to put a face and name to the venture.

Despite the amazing location of the restaurant and the world-famous names behind it, La Vache was actually created with the idea of bringing the price of a skiing holiday down in mind.

So anyone living, training and working in Verbier was able to dine in the establishment without having to break the bank.

The trio's idea was to provide good food at decent prices to the skiers of Verbier because they themselves had ended up paying over the odds for mediocre fare.

With the likes of renowned chef Heston Blumenthal and restaurateur Rob Swayer having both been involved in the project, it was a great lunch spot with affordable food.

As you ski close to the James Blunt lift, watch out for the famous faces who may well be hitting the piste surrounding the lift at the same time as you.
